Niente Italia a Berlino 59. A poche settimane dalla delusione per l'Oscar mancato di Gomorra, ecco una nuova nota amara per il cinema italiano: nemmeno un film italiano sarà presente alla 59a edizione del Festival del Cinema di Berlino. La giuria internazionale chiamata ad assegnare l'Orso d'oro e d'argento sarà presieduta dall'attrice Tilda Swinton, la regista spagnola Isabel Coixet, il cineasta Gaston Kaboré (Burkina Faso), l'autrice svedese Henning Mankell, il regista Christoph Schlingensief (Germany), il regista Wayne Wang (USA) e l'autrice Alice Waters (USA).
L'Italia dovrà accontentarsi di co-produzioni: insieme a Francia e Grecia è stato realizzato Eden à l'ouest di Costa Gavras, con Riccardo Scamarcio protagonista, Ricky del francese Francois Ozon, co-prodotto con la Francia, e The Dust of Tim di Theo Angelopoulos, con Michel Piccoli, Willem Dafoe e Bruno Ganz, realizzato con la partecipazione di Germania, Grecia e Russia. Tra le pellicole più attese, Cheri di Stephen Frears, con Michelle Pfeiffer, In the Electric Mist del regista francese Bertrand Tavernier e la prima mondiale del polacco Tatarak di Andrzej Waida, con Krystyna Janda.
Non mancano gli americani: Happy Tears di Mitchell Lichtenstein, con Demi Moore protagonista, The Private Lives of Pippa Lee di Rebecca Miller, altra prima mondiale con Alan Arkin e Keanu Reeves, The Reader di Stephen Daldry, con Kate Winslet (vincitrice del Golden Globe come miglior attrice non protagonista) e Ralph Fiennes, oltre a La Pantera Rosa 2 di Harald Zwart con Steve Martin e Jean Reno.
